Podiatrist or Chiropodist?
Confusingly, these are two names for the same profession! Podiatry is the international word which has been increasingly adopted here over many years, and also reflects the much-increased scope of practice of the profession in this time. It means ‘foot doctor’, from the Greek pod and iatros. Chiropody is a more old-fashioned term, and in fact means ‘hands and (or on) feet’ from the Greek chiros for hand.
